Historical introduction

The Government Office of the Slovak Republic resides nowadays in a palace used in the past as the summer residence of the archbishop of Esztergom. An integral part of the summer archbishop´s palace was also the chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. As early as in the 17th century, there was a garden established in the premises of the Government Office of the Slovak Republic. This garden was admired by visitors from all around Europe, including nobility who came to Bratislava to see Coronations of Hungarian kings. In the late 1970s so-called New building of the Government Office of the Slovak Republic was built at the eastern edge of the historic garden.
